My new book is out! And it needs your help!
December 29th, 2008 Posted by EricI’m not gonna lie. This is a “mature readers” book. That means it’s got cussing. Explosions. Fecal incontinence. And the son of God. All in 32 pages.
So if none of that sounds good or interesting to you, stop reading.
For everyone else, prepare for a pitch.
“JESUS CHRIST: IN THE NAME OF THE GUN” issue 1 is available for order! It hits bookshelves in the Spring, but only if the thing gets high-flying initial orders from the comic stores. Look, I know the lot of you may or may not read comics. That’s cool, I won’t fault you for it.
But it’s my birthday this week. And if I had to ask for one thing from my dearest friends (and you), it’s for your eye sockets to be rocked by some hard-core actiony goodness!
The comic book “Jesus Christ: In the Name of the Gun,” is being released as a monthly series– WORLDWIDE! That means that no matter where you live, your neighborhood comic store can carry the book that AINT IT COOL NEWS recently called “FREAKIN’ HILARIOUS!”
For a limited time, you can check out some of my comic at www.JesusChristStory.com.
Look, I know people fill your brains with comic bulletins all the time, for their wamby-pamby hand-drawn nonsense. But this shiz is REAL, bro! Check it out! No, really. EXPLOSIVE FLIP-KICK!
Independent comics can be hard work, full of ball-kicking risk. Especially when it’s the FIRST FRIGGIN ISSUE! So, don’t wait another day. Pick up the phone, call your local comic shop and tell them to order JESUS CHRIST: IN THE NAME OF THE GUN, published by BAD KARMA PRODUCTIONS. They can find us in the PREVIEWS catalog which came out last week, to all comic stores! Our order number is JAN09_4045. Orders must be in soon.
We’ll be hosting a bunch of contests for people who buy the book soon. But the first step is to get the stores to order it this week.
Happy Holidays, people. I love you dearly.
“I CREAAAAAATEEEE!”
December 18th, 2008 Posted by EricI’m really happy with the people I get to work with, creatively. This isn’t a new revelation. But I’m noticing a lot of my peers that I work with regularly on the film and comic projects, growing into a real cohesive group.
Projects are getting more fun to work with. Even the gruelingly tiresome or stressful ones. There’s some nights though when I hit what would have been a creatively tough collaborative situation a few years ago– and then like tonight, it just goes smoothly and happily.
Not saying we’re all just cheerful little monkeys over here. There can be a lot of groaning and stress. But generally, the actual work is improving– and the goodness and maturity of these creative relationships is really starting to shine.
Being thankful is turning into more than a seasonal exercise, but especially during this year’s holiday season– I’m really thankful for my peers. It’s a good gang and good friends.

this is the second drawing i've posted inspired by the song The Widow, by Mars Volta. only this one is a lot more trippy. i used to draw weird creepy stuff like this in college all the time. but tonight it just kinda came out of left field. right before this one, i was doodling my typical cutesy-crap.
The Cat & The Camera
November 9th, 2008 Posted by Shayla ChaseSo we decided to do a photo shoot, well, I decided to...Rogue didn't really volunteer and was a very reluctant model, but it was fun and I got some good shots.

My Favorite is the one with him standing, he's very high fashion in that photo. =)

He was a pretty tired cat after all the playing he did for the camera.
Hope everyone else had a good Saturday night! I'll post a couple more photos on Flickr later.

for the Kick Girl graphic novel, and for the webcomic, i'm going back and un-toning all my pages, and making them just grayscale. i'm glad i taught myself how to do the tones... it was useful to help me learn some tricks. in print though, the comics never looked like i wanted them to. onscreen, it just looks hideous.
grayscale is easier. and easier to change.
going back and redoing everything also gives me a chance to fix any pannels i dislike. it takes time to redo it... but i'm happier with how the comic looks now. i hope you will think so too!

pencil sketches are okay, right? i think if i tried to ink it, i'd just ruin it.
Foxy is pretty much my ideal girl i think. despite the fact she's looking naughty here, she's kind of a tomboy, and she really is the sweetest person ever. way sweeter than any realistic person. she's the main female role of my "Orion" story stuff - the comic series i'd probably start after Kick Girl. "Orion" is kind of like... a space-Rome story. with gods and demi-gods and empires and spaceships. lovely. if i had to relate Foxy to a roman (technically, greek i guess) character, i'd have to say she's like Helen of Troy. only she doesn't come from a god-like background. i think her father works in the empire's main palace, so she spent a lot of time there growing up, learning how to fix and build stuff. and of course, she befriends our future hero and villain. when she's all grown-up, she helps Orion by making him the best ships and other things to aid him on his way. eventually, she is captured by Emperor Rage, who has been enamored with her since childhood.
here's some sprites i made of the main characters about 2 years ago:

October 29th, 2008 Posted by EricI’ve been unable to listen to music with lyrics while writing. It just got in the way of things. So at the recommendation of Joe and some other friends, I started listening to soundtracks and surf music while I write… Then switching over to driving rock music when I’m on breaks.
I’m listening the shit out of surf music now. I can’t get enough of it. Dick Dale. The Trashmen. The Ventures. The Chantays. “Miserlou” “Pipeline” “Walk, Don’t Run” “Mr. Eliminator”… I don’t know why it never hit me before, being a pacific ocean junkie. But surf music is some of the best music ever created, it shares some of the same qualities as good Italian scores. It’s a Hemingway. It’s so simplistic, and pure, and just hits the heart without spending any time on worthless moments. Hits deep.
